i) To characterize the local climate conditions and to compare men and women farmers' perception on extreme climate variability (ECV); ii) To understand how men and women in farm households perceive and experience climate shifts and how this is linked to food security and sustainable livelihoods and iii) To identify the coping strategies that men and women farmers utilize in order to ensure a measure of food security and sustain livelihoods in response to climate variability. |
+ Extreme climate variability (ECV) affects both the gender but with different consequences according to their roles and responsibilities. + There is a significant difference in responses of male and female farmers on the issues of food and water availability and on health as these are the issues where females are most based on their primary roles. + Better yield was the major reason to change the variety if at all they decide to change. + Occupational migration is common in the study area but locational migrations are negligible as the study area is inhabited by tribal community who generally prefer to stay with their families rather than seek alternative incomes in far places. Moreover the poor infrastructure inhibit outmigration for those who are interested to migrate. |
