    Research Thrust Areas

    Sub-Theme:

    • STA 1: Bioprospecting and utilization of crop germplasm, including medicinal and aromatic plants and orphaned/ underutilized crops with special focus on regional germplasm.
    • STA 2: Understanding genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying important traits like yield, biotic and abiotic stress tolerance, nutrient use efficiency, grain quality and nutrition etc. for crop improvement.
    • STA 3: Translational research strategies for improving traits of importance for NEH region and enhancing genetic gain in crop productivity and nutrition
    • STA 4: Harnessing optimised methods and techniques for production of quality seed/ planting material in crops of economic/ nutritional relevance to NEHR
    • STA 5: Biochemical/Metabolic profiling of important major and minor crops including underutilized crops, medicinal, aromatic plants and traditional foods of north east India

    Significant Achievements of the School during the period 2021-2026:

    1. Three HYV of rice released, namely CAU-R 105 (Khingrasong I), CAU-R 107 (Khingrasong II) and CAU-R 124 (Khingrasong III).
    2. During the period from 2021-22 to 2025-26, 55 M.Sc. Students and 15 PhD Students have passed out from the School of Crop Improvement.
    3. Eight Externally Funded Projects have been completed during the period from 2021-22 to 2025-26 in the School of Crop Improvement.
    4. Dr. Wricha Tyagi, Professor, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, SCI, deputed to ICRISAT, Hyderabad, from 2022-2025.
    5. Dr. Mayank Rai, Professor, Genetics and Plant Breeding, currently deputed as Dean, Post Graduate College, RPCAU, Samastipur, Bihar.
