    Research Thrust Areas

    Sub-Theme:

    1. Cereal crop improvement – Rice and Maize
    2. Oilseed crop improvement- Rapeseed-Mustard, Groundnut, Soybean
    3. Pulse crop improvement – Chickpea, Pea, Lentil, Mung
    4. Minor/Underutilized crop improvement – Rice bean and buckwheat, etc.
    5. Horticulture, Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Improvement

    Sub-Sub-Thematic Areas:

    SSTA-1 Bioprospecting and utilization of regional crop germplasm, medicinal and aromatic plants, and underutilized crops.
    SSTA-2 Understanding genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying important traits like yield, biotic and abiotic stress tolerance, nutrient use efficiency, grain quality and nutrition etc. for crop improvement.
    SSTA-3 Utilization of crop improvement strategies like introgression and forward breeding; mutagenesis; polyploidy etc. for improving traits of importance for NEH region and enhancing genetic gain in crop productivity and nutrition.
    SSTA-4 Production of quality seed/ planting material in crops of economic/nutritional relevance to NEHR

    Significant Achievements of the School during the period 2021-2026:

    1. Three HYV of rice released, namely CAU-R 105 (Khingrasong I), CAU-R 107 (Khingrasong II) and CAU-R 124 (Khingrasong III).
    2. During the period from 2021-22 to 2025-26, 55 M.Sc. Students and 15 PhD Students have passed out from the School of Crop Improvement.
    3. Eight Externally Funded Projects have been completed during the period from 2021-22 to 2025-26 in the School of Crop Improvement.
    4. One faculty member deputed to ICRISAT, from 2022-2025
    5. Another Faculty member of SCI deputed as Dean, Post Graduate College, RPCAU, Samastipur, Bihar, during this period.
